As we prepare for the second meeting of the Synod later in 2024, we note that the Synod’s final report from October 2023 goes some way towards acknowledging the wounds inflicted on the Church by “clericalism, a chauvinist mentality and inappropriate expressions of authority.” It calls for “a profound spiritual conversion as the foundation for any effective structural change… the abuse of power and authority continue to cry out for justice, healing and reconciliation.”

We are appealing for this recognition to go beyond just words to action and the only way this can be done is for the foundations of the Church’s understanding and application of authority to be radically upended in the year ahead.  READ MORE HERE

Do not succumb to Synod fatigue
Synodality means the community of Catholics should discern together. That includes free and open discussion including questioning Church policies and practises that cause harm and are not based on our true tradition. And so we must guard against Synod fatigue and not give up hope or lose momentum in demanding urgent change from our bishops and keep pushing for justice.

We conducted a POLL among Catholics

Catholics’ sense of faith is a key indicator of inerrant doctrine according to the Second Vatican Council (Lumen Gentium 12). In our poll we asked Catholics to express their views on questions such as: the accountability of ministers; women’s ordination; pastoral councils; freedom of expression for theologians; respect for the gift of prophecy;  and the latent sacramental power of the faithful. 

Their responses show overwhelming support for reforms called for in John Wijngaards’ book: Christ’s Idea of Authority in the Church.
